Questions people ask before they start
Is my workplace toxic?
A hard week is not the same thing as a toxic workplace. The signal is a system that keeps repeating: after-hours availability treated as commitment, blame where a process should be, silence or a character story when people leave, rules that bend for a circle, or a cost when someone speaks up. This quiz is not a diagnosis or a legal finding. It scores the workplace. Take the free quiz on this page.
Is a toxic workplace the same as a toxic boss?
No. A toxic boss is one person: repeated behavior you can name. A toxic workplace is the system, and it can outlast a manager change. If the pattern has one person's name, take the is my boss toxic quiz instead. Do not add the two scores.
Is this quiz a diagnosis or legal advice?
No. It is a self-reflection on ten workplace patterns. It does not decide whether anything meets a legal test, and it is not medical or HR advice. If the pattern may be harassment, retaliation, discrimination, a safety problem, or it is already in your health, talk to someone qualified where you live.
Do I need to sign up to take this quiz?
No. The quiz is free and requires no account. At the end you'll see your result and can optionally subscribe to weekly job openings from companies that write down how a week actually works.
Methodology & Scoring
This quiz is about the workplace, not one manager. The ten scenarios cover after-hours expectations, blame, turnover, cliques, the cost of speaking up, shifting priorities, chronic urgency, a team that is already exhausted, decisions made in side rooms, and a handbook that does not match the week. It is a self-reflection. It is not a diagnosis, a legal finding, or HR advice.
Scoring: Each scenario is scored 0 for not really, 1 for somewhat true, or 2 for painfully true. Totals run from 0 to 20. Friction is 0–6, warning is 7–13, and toxic is 14–20.
Read the scenarios you scored 2, not only the total. A toxic boss is one person. If those 2s have a name, use the boss quiz on its own scale. The printable checklist is the paper version of this question. Do not add the scores together.
